THE BASICS OF VIDEO WRITING |
|
There is a demand for video script writers who can effectively reach
audiences. The key is the ability to think visually. We will discuss
the process of scripting and the principles of audio-visual "language"
by studying scripts and viewing clips that demonstrate how an idea
is translated from paper to screen. Via role plays and discussion,
we will investigate the uses of voice-over narration, dialogue,
sound effects, music and camera shots and sequences. The instructor
will share information on how to approach potential clients and
how to price video script writing services. Some previous writing
or video experience is recommended. Registration includes a materials
fee. This class will meet for four weeks.

INTERMEDIATE VIDEO WRITING |
Students will select and write
scenes for projects using techniques and concepts explored in "Video
Basics". These projects may be fictional dramas/comedies or
may be for organizations with training or promotional needs. We
will analyze and critique these scenes in a non-attack atmosphere,
highlighting strong points and areas that need improvement. The
aim will be to develop the writer's understanding and ability to
craft video material that connects strongly with audiences while
furthering the individual's own capacity for self-expression. Where
appropriate, existing videos that illustrate principles will be
screened.
